The children´s education and development is our main focus. Our heart is to help them discover and develop their God given talents and purpose to give hope for their future.
Tanzanian School System
Unlike in Europe or other western countries, education in Tanzania is not a given, and good education is a priviledge. To give an idea: The average class size in public schools is 50-60 children and most children do not have access to school books. Many families already struggle to pay the school fees for public schools and a lot of children drop out after primary school. According to statistics in 2022, only 49% of boys and 39% of girls attend secondary school and only 31% graduate.
Apart from the financial difficulties school poses, the quality of the education and the languages are also a problem. Classes in public primary schools are in Swahili language, while the teaching in secondary school is completely in english – this is the reason most children fail to graduate. Only private schools provide the children with a good english level, but are too costly for most tanzanian families.
The challenges only become greater when they grow up, it is hard to find a job and be able to provide for themselves. Most of Tanzania´s young adults join any sort of family business or get job positions through connections, but orphaned children are at a very big disadvantage.
Our Support
Our desire is to offer orphaned children the opportunity to receive a good quality education, which will give them a better chance for their future. This is why we developed a Sponsorship program, which involves:
-Working closely with Shalom to support each child individually.
-Enrolling the younger children in private schools, where they study in smaller classes and focus on learning english from early childhood.
-Yearly visits to maintain a close relationship with the children and follow up on their development.
-Providing for their primary and educational needs.
-As they grow up, finding the best education and career option according to their abilities and talents.
