Newsletter 2025

We are very excited to present you some updates of the last year and some upcoming projects of Lighthouse missions in Tanzania.

Students and graduations

Our students are about to finish another school year in December. This year Lighthouse has supported the education of 64 children through sponsorships and donations. The students are in all phases of education: pre-school, primary school, secondary school, vocational schools, diploma studies and universities (read our 2024 Newsletter for more details on the schools). All this could not happen without your generosity!

Here are some pictures of the children getting ready for school at the beginning of the school year, including their uniforms and supplies for the school year.

Skipping to the end of the year, take a look at our pre-primary and primary school graduates! Another four students are now in their final stretch of secondary school and high school and will celebrate their graduation at the end of this year.

Day-Care Project

Seeing so many babies in Shalom last year motivated us to start a project that has been on our hearts for some years: A Day Care. We prepared a room and built furniture, of course using the learning opportunity for the older kids. Now there is a space the toddlers can do activities and learn with a teacher. We hope to start running the day care in January, as soon as we find a suitable teacher and finish setting up the room. The next stage is to extend the project by building a day-care centre and including other children from outside the orphanage. Sadly there are too many cases of young teenage mothers and abandoned women in Tanzania without any type of support. The Day-Care will provide a safe place for their children so they can work to provide for their families.

We are still raising funds for building the day-care centre and employing a teacher long-term. Material and supplies for the day-care are also needed. Please get in touch with us if you want to help!

Repair and Extension of Playground

Shalom’s playground was repaired and painted in June, thanks to an experienced volunteer from USA, our college student William and a crew of Shalom teenagers. They also built a basket ball ring. We plan to add more playground elements during our mission trip, since it is something the children really enjoy and use daily. Big thanks to Charlie for leading the project and teaching the children in the process.

Upcoming Mission Trip 2025

We are getting ready to go to Shalom end of November! Beside our two main projects (Day-Care and Playground), Lighthouse leaders and volunteers will be making sure Shalom and the children are provided with food and all they need for the next school year. There will be quality time, counselling and also fun and creative activities with the children. Here are some pictures of our mission trip last year:

In addition Lighthouse wants to extend their hand outside of the orphanage and provide “Christmas baskets” with basic food and supplies for families in need.

Thank you to everyone helping to create bright futures and lasting memories for the children!
