Dear Friends,
We are once again planning a Christmas mission trip to Shalom Orphanage in Tanzania from November 22nd 2019. We will have a total of 10 volunteers joining us from Spain, Germany, England and Kenya to help and be blessed by the beautiful children and country!
Our last mission trip in February 2019 brought several improvements and renovations to the orphanage like completing the 30 new closets for the children, the reconstruction of the front porch roof and the complete renovation of the older boys’ bedroom (with new bunk beds, mattresses and a desk). See full report on the website www.shalomkaratu.org. Now we are excited preparing the next 4 projects:
1. Renovation of the older girls’ bedroom, including replacement of old mattresses that are in poor condition. Estimate costs for this project are $1,000 for a study table, chairs, a new door and mosquito screens for the windows; and another $1,500 for 20 new mattresses with protective covers.
2. Our biggest and most expensive project is the rainwater collection system: Installation of gutters around the entire building (about $3,000) and a water tank that will protect the house from water damage and allow them to collect rainwater ($8,000). The two rainy seasons bring much rainfall and being able to collect their own water supply will help reduce the expensive water bills greatly! We have already been collecting funds for this project throughout the year, but are still in need of more funds.
3. Construction of a new hen house.
4. Our special Christmas project for the children is building and adding new fun elements to the playground.
